Let Me Tell You How Much I am Over “Advertisements” and Why
Recently I saw an banner ad that advertised a gift with purchase… clearly something that isn’t free. No matter how you look at it. money MUST be exchanged in order to receive the “gift.” So for the life of me I can’t understand why the ad clearly in bold letters says… “FREE!” Do the people approving these ads reall belive that they are fooling anyone? Are they fooled by ads that can only be described as blatant lies? Oh, of course not… because there is further reading, and I know this because of the simple yet minuscule asterisk. like a hair on a flea on a horse in a herd, the almighty asterisk directing us to font no larger than a fetus’s fingernails, scratching at the truth of the whole matter. As if we needed a blurb telling us the tacky gift they are dishing out isn’t actually free. But you know… legalities.
Rant Rant Rant!
I’m so done with these lame excuses for ads. As a consumer I don’t need to be told something is free in order to buy the original product. I want the truth! I can handle the truth dammit! I really can. I’m a big boy who makes me own choices and decisions financial or otherwise. And now it’s my choice to boycott brands that treat their consumers like a third grade bunch of hicks who may actually be fooled by this.

Another one I love… “No Purchase Necessary,” the kicker? the instructions for entering are printed on the inside of the package. So you either have to dumpster dive for discarded packages, or beg, borrow and steal them from others who have legitimately purchased them. EITHER WAY someone had to have already purchased them. So WHY does it say no purchase necessary? OMG KILL YOURSELF!
Rant Rant Rant!
I could go one but in the end, we as a civilization are ready for transparency and honest advertising. Cut the “Free” cut the “No Purchase Necessary” just cut it out! If you must have an asterisk then consider your message unlawful, incomplete or dishonest.
Oh and don’t even get me started on Photoshopping!!!
