Anna Piaggi

The Original Headline Maker

Between Anna Piaggi and Isabella Blown you can pretty much round up all the outfits Gaga has ever worn. Piaggi was an inspiration to those who “get” fashion and a whimsical oddity to those that don’t. Her life was lived drenched in couture but was much more than a fabulous socialite. In fact, her reach went far beyond the realm of fashion and well into the homes and hearts of millions.

Anna and Karl

As a journalist who worked for Arianna, Vanity, Panorama and finally Italian Vogue, her words were read by literally thousands of people every month but her words were only half of the magic that was Anna. With looks as grand as hers, she because a style icon early on and inexorably, her fan-base grew in size and understanding of her fabulous intentions with style. Where once a young woman with unique style stood, the memory of an icon of boundless creativity and muse remains. Anna Piaggi passed away August 07, 2012.

Piaggi and her fascinators

I feel that Anna was one of the first inspirations of street style. Her vivacious style captured audiences the world over and was at the very least reason for something to point a camera at and shoot. I wonder how many images were snapped of Anna through the course of her life? She was definitely a sight to behold regardless of the event. Afternoon tea, fashion after party, front row at Dolce & Gabbana, it didn’t matter, she was always dressed… incredibly interestingly.

My fascinator is tipped to you Mrs. Piaggi for raining light on the odder side of fashion and standing tall as one of the first street style models ever. You were a fantastic writer, and would have made a brilliant blogger if that was even a thing back in the 50’s.

R.I.P. Anna Piaggi
