Best of London Fashion Week SS14

Amazing clothes for Spring 2014

The Very Best Of London Fashion Week Spring 2014

With London all wrapped up, it’s time to look back at the best, craziest and most inspiring shows that came out of it. With over fifty designers showing off their creations the shows are anything but clouded over and dreary… (unlike the weather in London town). With the unabashed juices of pure inspiration from Central Saint Martin and other high fashion design houses flowing eagerly down LFW runways, you are bound to get some “off the hook” collections and some “off the rocker and into the garden of crazy” shows as well. Brilliant minds including Christopher Bailey of Burberry Prorsum, John Rocha, Jonathan Saunders, Mary Katrantzou, Matthew Williams, Antonio Berardi, Roksanda Ilincic, Thomas Tait and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi were among a few of my absolute favorite shows from LFW SS14.

Contradictory to this season’s white and bright trend came a darker mood introduced from brands like Tom Ford, Christopher Kane, Giles, Meadham Kirchoff, Simone Rocha and Erdem (even though Erdem was pretty much half and half in terms of coloration, the mood of the show was quite somber). I happen to think dark for Spring is a great concept. Take Amanda Peet for example. Her appearance on the red carpet in a near aphotic lace Erdem dress was a statement of significant beauty. I also believe she was an encompassing vision of their Spring 2014 collection as well as many others who have joined the dark side of the fashion design world this Spring 14.

Of course with the gorgeous comes the disastrous… The clothing at Rihanna for River Island was fun… I suppose… but Rihanna’s new hair is exactly what I would call disastrous. It’s a mullet! I don’t care what anyone says that mullet is so nasty! Ri-Ri is a beacon of “sexy” so what was her stylists thinking? On a side note her collection showed during the Thomas Tait show which (as mentioned above) was remarkable. And even if it wasn’t “re mark able” it was definitely a  testament to ready-to-wear fashion that embodied the white trend of the season.

What’s with Rihanna’s blue lipstick and mullet??? Just because you left the US to broaden your fashion horizon doesn’t mean you can go awol with your hair and mackup. It’s like someone plucked her out of he 80’s.

I think she was going for more of a severe 90’s grunge take over look but fell flat in a pond of nastiness…

The green feathers threw me for a loop at first but then I remembered how pop of color are so important when it comes to cascading whites on the runway and what better way to do it than with mint plumage?
