Boyfriend Jeans Aren’t Going Anywhere
Like the ebb and flow of the stock market, fashion trends can dip or be the next huge thing. Take skinny jeans for example. Their popularity wasn’t predicted to be as huge as it was, nor run for as long as it has in the “Must Have” category. Skinny jeans still account for 50% of premium denim sales but are on the brink of decline. Keep in mind that’s not including fashion denim that may also be skinny (which it typically is).
So what’s next? The boyfriend jean has been popular since several high profile celebrities and fashion bloggers have been seen wearing them. And when I had a recent chat with a 7 For All Mankind® sales rep, she mentioned that the boyfriend makes up about 30% of their business and is on the rise. Next season, we’ll see more washes in their best selling “Josefina” and they’re also introducing more styles that take distressing to the next level.
So, is it wise to invest in the boyfriend jean now? Or are we planning on breaking up sooner rather than later?
Stats show that it’s on the rise and since denim can’t be skinny forever, and the boyfriend fits EVERY body type, looks like we’re in a long term kind of thing. However, when styling the boyfriend jean, wear it loose and comfy. That’s how I show all my clients to wear them. Forget trying to make your bf jean hug your thighs or knees. You HAVE to feel stylish and relaxed. Think 90’s grunge with freshly shellac’d nails. If you’d feel comfortable on a plane in them after a flight from LAX to JFK, then it’s a win!
My denim confidant (Negaar) says to check out the “Jake” style by J Brand and tells us what she thinks of the boyfriend style:
“ I think the bf jean has become a “basic” style at this point. I think the silhouette may evolve but I think the actually style isn’t going anywhere. It’s also needed, as women need a pair of comfy jeans not just skinny’s! What will you wear to brunch if bf jeans didn’t exists?”
And for the love of god don’t answer Lulu Lemon’s to that question!
Still don’t believe me that bf jean’s are huge? Well check out this new ad from 7 For All Mankind® featuring Miranda Kerr.
