How do You Get Gum Out of Clothing?
Today I had the very disgusting and altogether unpleasant experience of removing gum from my Juicy Couture Zip-Up. Let me tell you, I could have performed open heart surgery and been less grossed out. But… Like the trooper I am I grabbed the necessary implements, suited up in cleaning attire, and took the the challenge head on. Here is an easy guide to removing gum from luxury clothing.
First thing is to grab all the things you will need to get out the sticky disgusting mess. First thing, some Vodka! This really has nothing to do with cleaning your garment and everything to do with calming yourself. If you are like me, you just sat, leaned, or had gum thrown on you so at the end of the day you are disgruntled, sticky and anxious to know if you can get the aspartame rich vice out of your designer clothing. So take a sip and lets carry on calm, cool, collected. Let’s remove gum together.
Next up some ice cubes. This is the most important element in the whole gum removal situation so I used heart shaped ice in hopes it wouldn’t damage the delicate material and in hopes the gods would have mercy on me ad my zip-up.
You may need a plastic bag to put the ice in, I didn’t use it, but you not want to get wet.
You will also need a blunt scraping device, I selected this rare tool called a butter knife. You will need this to gouge out the gum from in between the fibers and flake off frozen bits of chewy mess.
Lastly you will also need a crappy cloth. This cloth may have to be thrown out so make sure it’s not part of a set or anything like that.
Step 1. After you do a shot of vodka to calm the nerves, either place the ice directly on the gum or into a plastic bag and then onto the gum. In order to speed up the icing process you can actually place the whole garment into the freezer. But I didn’t do that either.
Step 2. WARNING: don’t damage your fabic in this step! If you notice any tearing or anything like that simply stop and be gentler with your gouging/picking motion. Start picking with your blunt scraper. You’ll see the gum start to come off in flakes. if it is stretchy still, then freeze it some more. You want the gum to e nearly completely frozen so it flakes off.
After step 2 you’ll notice that the gum is nearly gone. HAZAA! More vodka time. then move onto step 3.
Step 3. Continue to ice what’s left o the gum and then rub it with the cloth. tiny pieces of the gum will start to remove themselves and you’ll be left with a nearly spotless designer garment.
Step 4. Wash or dryclean the garment the way you normally would and you’ll notice the gum will be completely removed.
Voila! You are now intoxicated and have sccessfully removed all the gunk from whatever was gunked up. You go Glen Co-Co!
