Lapel Pin Trend

McQueen Lanvin and Chanel Lapel Pins

The lapel pin, hat pin, and scarf pin

A great accessory this upcoming Fall 2012 will be the lapel pin. Knowing what it is and show to wear it will be in your best interest if you want to stay on the front lines of fashion. A long metal pin that skewers your scarf, lapel, or hat is a perfect statement piece for the fashionisto that prefers a bit more detail on your clothing rather than against your skin.

Many collections have incorporated the use of these pins into their collections by means of using them to secure a wayward scarf to a oversized jacket lapel, to accentuate a detail on a tie, or just to add some depth to a otherwise basic piece. Styling these correctly is not as easy as it may seem. Their precision is paramount for the right amount of sparkle and to maintain sartorial strength. Having a lopsided pin is as fashion forward as wearing denim to the Opera. Most pins will have only one piercing metal piece so getting them to sit straight may be a challenge but it is worth the effort. Some pins are now designed with multiple piercing components to the pin allowing for a much easier time setting the trendy accessory into place and ensuring its sturdy position.Other Lapel Pins

As with all fashion accessories there is a time and place so to avoid embarrassment I have produced a list of social events and places that one should avoid wearing the coveted lapel pin:

  • When your outfit has a large number of prints
  • When you are wearing a print with a lot of fine detail
  • When there is already a lot of jewelry on your body
  • When you are already wearing a hat pin
  • At a magnet convention
  • On a plane
  • Around small children

With these simple things in mind your pinning experience will be enjoyable and rewarding for all involved.Tom Ford Lapel Pin

Happy pinning!
