Rodarte Black Swan
Amy Westcott is making quite the stink about sibling Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy taking credit for the costume designs for the film Black Swan starring Natalie Portman. Though there is valid arguments on both sides I strongly believe that the credit should go to either the Rodarte sisters or designer Zack Brown (for the American Ballet Theater). You see, Brown designed the 40 outfits and Amy Westcott simply styled them to flow with the movie.
Here is a thought… Does it count that the Mulleavy sisters designed all the note worthy costumes? I don’t doubt that costume designer, Amy Westcott did a big part in setting the story through dress, but I believe that what made this movie so extraordinary was the over-the-top Black and White swan outfits designs by the Rodarte Designers. Oh and here’s a thought… “Quit bellyaching! it’s public knowledge that the actual “Costume Designer” was Zack Brown. Slight modifications were made to the 40 or so ballet outfits he designed by Amy Westcott. So lets call a spade a spade and label Westcott for what she is, a Stylist.
- Congratulations Mulleavy sisters you took this movie from a ballet story to a masterpiece.
