The Red Carpet Colored Tuxedo Trend
This will be an updated post each award season, movie premiere and special event dedicated to any tuxedo that isn’t black. The quintessential classic will forever be popular in black… but we’re here to celebrate every uncommon coloration, every peculiar hue and every shade in the rainbow. Tux’s are a defining way to stand out among the crowd, and time was, you’d only wear them to your wedding… and your funeral. Today a Saturday night out with the guys is reason enough to get formal in a fun way… enter the colored tuxedo.
Wearing a tux in any color other than black means you don’t have to wear those uncomfortable pants either. Jeans match perfectly… and forget that stuffy pin-tuck shirt… hell even a T-shirt would do the trick. Just make sure it’s a clean one. Today is the day to embrace color the way Nick Jonas has, the way Jared Leto has and definitely the way Pharell Williams has. All these taste-makers walk the red carpet in New York, Hollywood and abroad in a little less than saturated perfection.
This year started out with Matthew McConaughey and David Oyelowo in Dolce & Gabbana wearing deep shades of purple and navy blue.
The Golden Globes also turned out a number of other gorgeous tux’s including Matthew Bomer (photo at top) in the color of the season. This lapis blue Ralph Lauren Black label stole the show and put Bomer as my best dressed for the 2015 Golden Globes.
Another one to mention from the Globes was Adrian Grenier, and before you say anything… I loved that he took a risk on eggplant… however he needed a different tailor. The tux was quite loose around the legs.

Those are some classy looking tuxedos. It’d be great if more men embarrassed color, especially at formal situations.
Where would you find a tuxedo like that – with out spending a ton of money? I know a tux isn’t cheap, even the affordable ones, but any insight would be appreciated.
Go to Zara. They’re everywhere and as long as you’re not too broad then that’s a great option. Also take a look at custom suiting. It’s cheaper than you think and comes in any color you want.
Thx Mark!
