Vera Wang is a goddess in the fashion world. Not only is she 60 and still looking fabulous, but at an age when our parents and grandparents are picking out colors for their retirement homes, Vera is designing and producing one of a kind collections and keeping up with the newer, younger designers and definitely giving them a huge run for their money. Her signature relaxed and effortless style is so evident and her Pre-Fall 2011 collection is no exception.
This collection will be my wardrobe when I live in New York City and I am going about my daily routine. Just like the garments in this collection there are layers upon layers of texture and magic that is incorporated in each piece. From goat fur to wool-pleated skirts to leather details on the sleeves of chic coats all the way down to socks over socks, layers rocked this collection.
The bulk of this collection puts a modern twist to the age old school girl get-up. The color palate was dark and some would say basic, but there was a richness to it that made this irresistible. Another detail that made this one of my favorite pre-fall collections yet is the use of goat fur. I know that this is not the only collection ever to use fur but I love the way in which it was used. On the backs of jackets, an entire skirt, and as a vest, fur took this collection to the next level.
In true Vera Wang style, what would a collection be without cocktail dresses and gowns? The neckline adorned with embellished details and wonderful shapes was a fabulous cherry on top of a magical silk cupcake. Silk fabric, usually so not forgiving to anyone who doesn’t have the body to be on a runway, looks like it could make any woman, any size look like a million bucks. This is the power of Vera.
This collection, all though at first glance may look basic, when looked at closely, is a beautiful, magical and imaginative collection that would make any woman feel like a young and sexy school girl, in a tasteful way of course. Thank you Vera, I tip my leather hat to you.
