Donatella Versace has once again proven to be a designer of the times. With what seems to be such a basic palette, this collection proves to be anything but.
The common thread in this newest Versace creation is the solid black or white cutouts and ‘cut-ins’ of a bold, somewhat abstract pattern. The peek-a-boos of pattern are not symmetrical by any sense of the word, but they are meticulously placed within each garment, and make the looks balanced. Whether a short cocktail dress, or a tapered trouser, the flow of the collection is apparent. The everyday fashionistas can immediately think of numerous ways to wear each piece individually.
Colors start to be thrown in marking the climax of the show. Lively greens, blues, yellows, and pinks dance across the garments in any combination you can imagine, but never seem to overpower the design and the cut. The colors are more of a compliment than an overstatement. As the looks go on, the designs become more structured, but not stuffy. Pencil skirts and bustier style tops in blacks and whites give a sexy flair for an evening look no matter where you vacation.
The edge in this collection is in the jackets and belts. Cropped jackets, with bold, gold zippers and an even bolder mesh long sleeve add a touch of rock to an otherwise very feminine collection. Belts are a staple among the styling but fit perfectly as they sport the same black and white pattern that we see throughout each look.
Versace Resort 2012 is what every stylish, traveling women will want to wear at their next resort hotspot. This collection is not what you get to go on vacation; it’s why you go on vacation.
