Wooden Ties for Men… I Didn’t Expect Menswear to Take This Root

I’ve heard of wooden watches, bracelets, necklaces, wooden handles on umbrellas, and even wooden belt buckles, but never wooden ties. So I decided to do some digging into this eco friendly sustainable product since I’m all about that life.
The fact that wooden ties even exist is a testament to the draw people have toward nature and how the grains in wood remind us of the beauty and fragility we lack in today’s society. I’m surprised there isn’t wooden underwear yet. I’m sure fashion will log-in to that trend sooner or later and make it more poplar whittle by whittle.

The company is “Wood Leon (Pronounced “Wood Lay-Own”), [which] combines antique elements and modern woodworking technology to create beautiful, eco-supportive conversation starters.” The fact that a product can bend the rules of sartorial classicism so defiantly while adhering to tradition, made me raise an eyebrow with intrigue and axe the question. Where can I get one?
First Impression of My Wooden Tie

The tie shape is knot unlike any of the hundred other ties I own, so from that perspective I thought it would be a show stopper but without making you the centre of attention. In terms of the wood used and the craftsmanship, I was blown away. I chose the honeycomb in walnut wood and was so happy I did. The deep colour allowed it to stand out and pop against the honeycomb design. Clearly all handmade and beautifully finished. The grain of the wood seems to pull your attention up to the face of the wearer which is the purpose of the shape and design of any good tie.
Is the Wood Tie Comfortable?

Putting on the tie was surprisingly easy and unlike a regular tie, it didn’t move around on me while wearing it. The predetermined length was great (as I measured it myself while ordering it), and I really appreciated the width as it was classic yet on-trend with menswear tie trends. Wearing a super wide tie is just ignoring fashion basics. Plus a wide tie will remind people of the 80’s and make those around you board.
I was a bit worried it would be too showy for day-to-day wear, and it IS a statement piece, but worn with a classic white dress shirt and paired with a monotone suit or sport coat and jeans, the look is casual enough for everyday whether you are leafing the office or just out grocery shopping.
Take a look at the detailed pics to see some of the details and let them stick in your head for the next time you’re considering a novelty wooden tie as a gift or for yourself.
